Toronto wins my prize for most amusing, and most unfortunate architecture.

Most Amusing:
Ontario College of Art & Design

(Who knew architecture could be funny?)

Most Unfortunate:
Royal Ontario Museum

(That poor building looks like it was attacked by the Borg.)

And then Frank Gehry seems to be turning the Art Gallery of Ontario into a boat. But we’ll see that next year.

no he’s right,Liebskind above and Gehry to design the art Gallery of Ontario. By the way,i think these buildings are fabulously inventive and you sir are living in the conservative past.

Don’t get me wrong. I absolutely *love* the OCA building. I think it’s my favorite building *ever*. I hear that the ROM addition was supposed to be all clear glass or all mirrors (I don’t remember which) which would have done wonderful things to the old facade. But as it is, it just looks odd.

The Liebskind museum was supposed to be glass but then it was discovered that if it was entirely glass it would become an incubator. Or at least, too hot for the exhibits. Too bad. I like the museum better at night when it is lit up.

Hi Raul,
I got these photos off the internet, so I can’t really give you permission to use them.

it’s bloody horrible, what they did to the ROM, they took a fine 19th century classic and grafted another fugly glass pyramid to it, I was appalled when they did it to the Louvre, but, at least that time they didnt attach it to the old building! THE NEW ROM IS HIDEOUS!!!!!!

the ‘new’ AGO looks like a third world makeshift airport

low ceilings, uninviting – no eye flow –
we were compelled to leave without entering..

the previous building was just fine. who did this horrible thing?
now Toronto has no really good art museum. pathetic, and a waste of money very sad indeed
